Green Tea and Wellbeing: Discover the different types of green tea

Organic Green Tea: Sencha, Matcha, Genmaicha & Kukicha

Green tea is one of the world’s most traditional and widely enjoyed drinks, and it continues to attract considerable interest in the fields of nutrition and wellbeing.

It comes from Camellia sinensis, the same plant used to produce other types of tea. What makes green tea different is its processing: oxidation is kept to a minimum, helping the leaves retain their characteristic freshness, aroma and distinctive flavour.

But green tea is far from being just one type of tea. Origin, harvest, processing methods and ingredients such as jasmine, roasted rice, ginger or cherry can completely transform the experience in the cup.

At Semper Tea, we offer a selection of organic green teas ranging from classic varieties to distinctive Japanese teas such as Sencha, Genmaicha, Kukicha and Matcha.

Organic Sencha Green Tea: Pure, fresh and delicate

Sencha is one of the best-known varieties of green tea and an essential part of Japanese tea culture.

Our organic Sencha produces a clean, delicate infusion with a fresh and aromatic character. Its refined flavour makes it an excellent choice for anyone who wants to discover green tea in its purest form.

That simplicity is precisely what makes Sencha so appealing. With no additional flavours competing for attention, the natural character of Camellia sinensis takes centre stage.

It is equally suited to people discovering green tea for the first time and experienced tea drinkers looking for a classic tea to enjoy every day.

At Semper Tea, green tea is available in different formats, from loose leaf tea to tea bags and our characteristic tea pyramids, which give the leaves plenty of room to unfold during infusion.

Organic Jasmine Green Tea with delicate jasmine flowers and a floral aroma

Organic Jasmine Green Tea: Delicate and floral

Green tea with jasmine is one of the great classics of Chinese tea tradition.

Our DELICATE JASMINE combines organic green tea with the elegant fragrance of jasmine flowers.

Its distinctive floral aroma appears as soon as the tea begins to infuse. In the cup, it is light, smooth and delicate, with the freshness of green tea beautifully balanced by the fragrant notes of jasmine.

It is particularly appealing to those who find the flavour of pure green tea too grassy or intense and prefer a softer, more aromatic alternative.

Jasmine Green Tea can be enjoyed both hot and cold. For hot preparation, we recommend water at around 85°C and an infusion time of approximately three minutes.

Green Tea with Ginger and Lemon: Fresh, citrusy and gently spiced

For a livelier interpretation of green tea, our blend combines organic Sencha with ginger and lemon.

Sencha provides a fresh and clean base, while lemon introduces bright, refreshing citrus notes. Ginger completes the blend with its distinctive warming and gently spicy character.

The result is a balanced cup in which the fresh tea, citrus and spice complement one another without any single flavour dominating.

This is a particularly versatile green tea for those looking for a more expressive alternative to classic Sencha.

It is delicious served hot but also works beautifully as a refreshing cold tea, making it a versatile choice throughout the year.

Organic Japanese Genmaicha green tea with roasted rice

Genmaicha: Japanese green tea with roasted rice

Genmaicha is one of the most distinctive Japanese green teas. Its defining characteristic is the combination of green tea with roasted rice.

When infused, the freshness of the tea meets the warm, toasted character of the rice. Its aroma can evoke roasted grains, toasted bread and nuts, while the cup itself is smooth and rounded with a pleasant touch of umami.

The result is an approachable Japanese green tea with a distinctive toasted, nutty character.

This makes Genmaicha particularly interesting for those discovering Japanese green tea who prefer something smooth, comforting and less grassy than a classic Sencha.

For preparation, we recommend water at approximately 75–85°C and an infusion time of around two to three minutes. Genmaicha can also be enjoyed cold.

Organic Japanese Kukicha green tea made mainly from tea stems and stalks

Kukicha: The distinctive japanese green tea made from stems

Kukicha demonstrates just how diverse Japanese green tea can be.

Often known as Japanese stem tea or twig tea, Kukicha differs from many other green teas because it is made mainly from the stems and stalks of the Camellia sinensis plant rather than primarily from its leaves.

Our organic Kukicha combines stems from the first and second harvests. The result is a particularly smooth, silky tea with low astringency.

Its flavour is delicate and gently sweet, with mild umami and subtle hints of grains and nuts.

Kukicha is also naturally lower in caffeine than many leaf-based green teas, making it an interesting choice for anyone looking for a lighter Japanese green tea.

The same tea can be infused two or three times, revealing different nuances with each infusion.

Sakura green tea for a relaxing break with Japanese flavour

Verde Sakura: Green tea with a delicate cherry note

Verde Sakura represents the more aromatic and fruity side of our green tea collection.

Inspired by Japan and its famous cherry blossoms, this blend combines the freshness of green tea with a delicate cherry note.

The result is smooth, refined and fruity. The cherry softens the characteristic flavour of green tea, making Verde Sakura particularly approachable for people who sometimes find pure green tea too grassy or intense.

It is also an inviting introduction to the world of green tea, maintaining its distinctive character while adding a familiar and enjoyable fruity aroma.

Its name, aroma and flavour evoke the Japanese imagery of spring, nature and the celebrated Sakura blossom.

Organic Japanese Premium and Culinary Matcha from Semper Tea

Matcha: When you drink the whole tea leaf

Matcha is fundamentally different from conventional infused green tea.

With traditional green tea, the leaves are infused in water and then removed. With Matcha, specially processed green tea leaves are ground into an extremely fine powder, whisked into water and consumed entirely.

This explains Matcha’s distinctive texture, vibrant green colour and characteristic combination of fresh green notes and pronounced umami.

At Semper Tea, we offer organic Japanese Matcha in two different qualities according to its intended use.

Premium Matcha has a smooth, fresh and gently sweet profile and is particularly suited to traditional preparation as a drink.

Culinary Matcha is ideal for Matcha lattes, smoothies, desserts, baking, cooking and other creative recipes.

This versatility has helped make Matcha one of the most recognisable forms of Japanese green tea, both at home and in contemporary cafés and foodservice.
